FLAGS FOCUSING ON
THE NON-HUMAN OTHER
A series of flags, placing the non-human othet at the centre, whose aim is to encourage the abandonment of the anthropocentic perspective in favour of emapathy towards other species. The eight flags provoke reflection on the relationship between humans and non-human entities. Three of them are dedicated to the elements of inanimate nature, namely the atmosphere, landforms and water, while the others are dedicated to representatives of animate nature.
The flags are graphically consistent since their visual language was based on the icon of a drop, which is a metaphor for all matter. The flags emphasise the agency of non-human beings, being a tool for their emancipation and reinforcing the concept of interspecies coexistence. The author, in spite of dominating catastrophic narratives, weaves a story full of hope for a better future based on interspecies cooperation and respect.
The project is complemented with a short zine, which describes each flag’s meaning and context.
